Really good photos happen when… #1: We Dance

On photo session day we* dance. We dance to Beyonce, Bad Bunny, Beanie Man, Black Pink, Billie Holiday and more. Because in my studio, a photo session isn’t a photo session without your favorite music.

Being in a studio for the first time or with a new photographer comes with nerves.

Which is why we’re going to fill the studio with songs you know well enough to sing, hum and dance to so that you feel more at home during your session. Dancing and shaking helps calm you down, helping you get more out of your head and into your body. Relaxing you and improving your expressions and posing. Which will also increase your chances of getting really beautiful photos.

Before you head out for your photo session, take a moment to think about what you want to hear.

Some questions that may help:

  • Who is an artist that really captures this moment in your life?

  • Who inspires you, who really gets where you are or where you want to go right now? Who makes you feel like your on your way?

  • What kind of vibe do you want and what genre of music fits the description? Review your shoot plan for help, This is the plan we design for your photo shoot during our Kick-off call together.

  • If nervous, what are some songs you love that you can sing along to during my session?

  • What will make you feel empowered, comfortable, like a baddie, or any other adjective that fits your description?

A bonus for me and the team, we get to know you even better through your musical tastes and get exposed to new artists.

In this moment of my life my playlist will be filled with Doechii, Beyoncé and Olivia Dean. Drop whose on yours below.

Bonus: I didn’t intend to take so many amazing dance photos of my clients I’m so glad dancing has become such a normal and fun part of my sessions that I can create a gallery of it’s own with my clients joy and laughter while they dance. They are often my favorite photos because they’re real. They look and feel like you in a way that sitting still could never capture. I’m glad we get to see that too.

Book a Discovery call to talk more about how we can craft the perfect groove for your next photo session.

Until next time,

Damaly
